About Us & Our Team
Cartel was born out of a respect for creative work and those who make it. Over decades of production experience and countless awards and accolades, founders Andy, Lauren, Leo and Marc know that the best work is made in a collaborative environment built on creative respect and a dedication to craft. This is the environment they seek to create, one where the next generation of talent can flourish under a core of top editors whose standard of work will elevate all those who create under the company flag.
Marc has made his career in production. As a co-founder of human, he built one of the industry’s most admired creative music production companies. But if you sat next to him on an airplane, Marc would tell you: advertising is what he does. And then he’d keep the conversation going until the plane touched down. He knows how to create a company culture and a standard for quality into which both top talent & top clients can "plug into." With Cartel, he will continue to do what he does best: make connections, nurture trust, and bring life to creative partnerships that make the world take notice— no matter how many hours of inflight conversation the job demands.
Lauren isn’t happy until everyone else is. As a producer, that means fostering an environment of creative respect-- for all collaborators, and for the work, itself. The work is key. It was Marc that gave her a shot as a producer, at human, where she became Executive Producer for 8 years. She then took that same title at Final Cut for the last 4. The de facto “mom” of the production department, Lauren’s team are grateful for her empathy and her calming level-headedness. At Cartel, she will dutifully mother the next generation of top talent.
MANAGING DIRECTOR & EDITOR
Andy founded his career in London, and after an award winning decade, headed to Los Angeles for a new challenge. With a strong sense of narrative and keen wit, he quickly found his way, making him sought after by the industries top creative talent. Andy has edited campaigns for Chevy, Samsung, Guinness, and Audi. His Under Armour 'Anthem’ spot, via Droga5 was part of the AICE Best National Campaign win.
Beyond advertising, Andy’s work spans across documentary, drama, short films and music videos. In 2012 he edited BAFTA Nominated ‘McCullin’, a feature length documentary chronicling the life of war photographer Don McCullin. As a founder at Cartel he will continue to cultivate a collective of the best creative editorial talent, rooted in the simple principal of doing the best work with the top creatives.
After an award winning career in London, Leo moved to Los Angeles 3 years ago. He has continued to develop his career in advertising while at the same time expanding into features, collaborating with Gia Coppola on her directorial debut 'Palo Alto' and (soon to be released) 'The Long Home' directed by and starring James Franco. Leo joins Cartel as a Creative Director, where he hopes to attract great editorial talent to an already stellar roster. Leo is the Grandson of artist Gerald Holtom, recognized for creating the peace sign.
Kyle’s career began under the bright lights of the LA Coliseum, collecting highlight-reel footage for his USC Trojans before becoming a feature film assistant editor. After college, he and his bike were drawn to Portland, where he landed at Joint Editorial. There, he spent 8 years learning from top creatives, cutting acclaimed films for Wieden+Kennedy and learning the value of treating people well. After a year in NYC, Kyle returns to LA to add to his own impressive list of career highlights—now, as a member of Cartel.
After a decade working with some of London's most prolific directors and agencies, Edward moved to Los Angeles in 2016 for a new challenge. With a strong aptitude for visual narrative and comedic timing he has edited commercials for EA Games, Adidas, Guinness, Booking.com, Stella Artois and collaborated with top agencies Weiden + Kennedy, TBWA Chiat Day, BBH and Adam&Eve DDB. He is also an experienced music video editor with credits including Usher, Justin Beiber, Ed Sheeran, U.N.K.L.E. and Nick Cave. As a proficient story teller, Edward hopes to expand his craft into drama and documentary and we look forward to watching the next chapter of his career here at Cartel.
Chris is an Emmy Award-winning editor whose fascination with storytelling started at a young age. He published a book in high school, remixed music for his college radio station and studied film. Destined for a career behind the camera, he found himself surprisingly at home in the edit bay. Joining Cut + Run out of college, he worked tirelessly to cultivate his skills quickly moving up the ranks to editor at Stitch. Chris' latest film, a documentary titled "Orange Sunshine", premiered in the SXSW Documentary Feature Competition, and recently won Best Editing at the Newport Film Festival. Between edit jobs, the Miami native can be found falling off surfboards or skipping leg day at the gym.
